As an advertising medium, business cards have long been important to companies. According to research, handing out a business card to potential customers is one of the fastest ways to exchange information. Statistically, giving out 2000 business cards increases sales by 2.5%. In addition, handing out colored cards increases the chances of being kept by potential customers. Colored business cards also have a higher likelihood of not being thrown away. The world’s most expensive business card, the Black Astrum Signature Card, costs $1500 per card.
In the US, it is estimated that approximately 27 million cards are printed every day. However, many of those cards end up in the trash or are discarded. While a large percentage of these cards are thrown away, others are kept in mind by future customers. Studies have shown that handing out just 100 business cards can result in an extra $5,000 in revenue for a small business. And yet, despite the increased demand, the number of business cards that are discarded each year is staggering.
Despite the fact that plastic business cards are no longer popular, the digital version is growing rapidly. In fact, digital business cards are expected to reach $3.1 billion by 2027, with a 14.7% CAGR from 2020 to 2027. Among small business owners, a full 68% say that their cards are effective, but 77% said they do not use digital business card apps. Smartphone apps have also proven to be more effective than traditional business cards.
